Center of Nuclear Advanced Technologies for Sustainable Development and Energy Decarbonization was created by Ekaterina Andreyevna Sokolova, Sadeghi Khashayar, and Ghazaei Seyed Hadi  at St. Petersburg Peter the Great University at the end of 2021, supported by the Strategic Academic Leadership Program "Priority 2030" of the Russian Federation.

The main goal of this center is to conduct advanced research projects in the field of nuclear energy and renewable sources. This center has developed a long-term plan to become a Russian Federation flagship research group with young, talented, and outstanding researchers from around the world. In addition, the center's long-term horizon is seen to compete with the world's leading universities in the field of nuclear knowledge and its applications.

The first phase of this project began in early 2022 and will run through 2025. The center has various scientific laboratories, including a seawater atomic desalination lab, a hydrogen nuclear production lab, a nuclear safety uncertainty analysis lab, and advanced numerical methods labs.

The main areas of the research group at this time are:

  • Nuclear desalination of seawater.
  • Hydrogen production using nuclear energy
  • Using the BEPU method for accident analysis
  • Integration of a heat storage system based on phase transition materials with a nuclear power plant
  • Using artificial intelligence to detect nuclear accidents

The CNAT-SDED team participates in conferences, contests and grants, presenting its unique developments to the international scientific community.
