Institute of Energy means traditions
October 2, 1902 classes began at four departments of the Polytechnic Institute, including the Electromechanical Department headed by M.A. Shatelen, the first professor of electrical engineering in Russia, who had participated in developing the General Plan of Electrification of the country.

In 1908 the department of "Steam Engines" headed by A.A. Radtsig was opened, which became the basis for the development of power machine engineering. The unique experience of creating a unified energy system of the country, the rational use and distribution of energy resources has formed modern scientific schools of IE, training highly qualified specialists, both for scientific activities in the university, and for work at the leading enterprises of the industry.

Institute of Energy means large scale
Energy encompasses all areas of industry. Our specialists create engines for marine vessels, cars, and diesel locomotives, steam, gas, and hydraulic turbines, turbo- and hydro generators, which produce 85 percent of electricity in Russia, design heat and nuclear power plants, and generate heat and electricity essential for life.
